His weathered face is set with dark eyes that burn like the coals of Hell, nobily arched brows and high, prominent cheek bones. His nose is wide, held loftily with an air of known magnitude. His mouth sets in a smug grin framed by a greying black mustace and beard, cut in the fashion seen worn by conquistadores. Villanueva’s greying locks hang loose about his broad shoulders. Villanueva wears a worn brown leather coat with golden embroidery, cut in the Spanish fashion, over a faded white shirt. A wide leather strap with an ornate buckle crosses his wide chest and a belt circles his mid-section containing a cutlass and flintlock. He wears brown pants and leather boots. A wide-brimmed black hat sits atop his head, graced by a shabby-looking white feather. Around his neck hangs a broken bottleneck and cork attached to a string. Personality: Villanueva is a very gruff and proud individual. He drinks heavily and is prone to barroom brawls. He has high regard for those who are brave enough to challenge him. He doesn’t hold much respect for the younger Pirate Lords, such as Sparrow, thinking that they aren’t near enough experienced to hold the position they do. Despite his apparent gruffness, he is surprisingly gentle and caring, especially to his close friend Mistress Ching, who is one of the Pirate Lords. He helped her found her brothel in Tortuga, as well as helping her around the busy streets due to her poor eyesight. Villanueva is very big on family ties and continues to keep in contact with his older brothers. Personal History: Villanueva was born to Spanish nobility, Barón Fernando Villanueva and Baronesa Maria Antonio Villanueva, in Cadíz, Spain. The youngest of 6, he spent most of his childhood running after and roughhousing with his brothers. The make believe war games were a precursor to his adult life, as he always choose the position as privateer, usually under the command of his brother Simón. He was very close to all of his brothers, continuing to keep in contact with them into adulthood. At the age of 16 he apprenticed himself to Captain Xavier Peréz, a privateer for the Spanish Crown. He remained under Peréz’s tutelage for 10 years before branching out on his own, using the inheritance left to him by his grandfather to finance his own ship and crew. He offered his service to Spain, and an affiliation with the Spanish Treasure Fleet was established. For the next 23 years he sailed from Spain to the Caribbean transporting gold, silver, and spices from the new world back to Spain, keeping a nice amount for himself. When he was not in the Caribbean, he set about installing a monopoly n the Adriatic Sea. No ship could sail without risk of being plundered by his flagship Centurion. Slowly he amassed a small fleet. Organized crime ruled the sea, and local ships, fishing vessels, and transport barges paid dues for safe sailing. Villanueva spent a good sum of his earnings in the taverns, buying round after round for his crew. Often, the good-natured drinking would end in brawls over wenches or supposed unpaid debts by other patrons. One night, Villanueva and the crew of Centurion were knocking a few back at a sea-side tavern in Pescara when a down and out textile merchant decided he would end the monopoly of the Adriatic by offing Villanueva. The chair that broke across his shoulders barely phased the already hammered Villanueva. He stood and turned, his bloodshot eyes piercing back at the origin of the chair. The merchant stood, trembling with drunken rage as he raised a flintlock, aiming at Villanueva’s heart. Villanueva laughed as he turned to his comrades. Surely this man was joking! A shot rang out across the tavern and the bottle of rum Villanueva held in his hand shattered, leaving only the neck and cork. The bar grew silent as Villanueva’s gaze slowly fell to the liquor mingling with dust and dirt on the floor. Everything went dark, and the next thing Villanueva knew, he was being thrown out of the tavern with a broken bottle neck in one hand and a black eye. He kept the bottle neck in remembrance of his mortality and vowed to lower taxes. After several years of exploiting and even more spending and gambling, Villanueva was approached by the First Pirate King with a request to join the Brethren Court at Shipwreck Cove as representation of the Adriatic Sea. Villanueva agreed and set off. At Shipwreck Cove, decisions were made to bind the sea goddess Calypso to earthly bones, therefore taming the sea. Nine pieces of eight were to be used, but as the pirate lords were all skint broke, the used whatever they had in their pockets. Villanueva offered forth his bottleneck among the pieces and, as instructed by Davy Jones, the Court performed the rites that bound Calypso to human form. Since then Villanueva has formed a tight friendship with Mistress Ching, whom he helped found a brothel in Tortuga. He has traveled the world, which has pitted him against other Lords such as Ammand and Chevalle, and has an intense dislike for Chevalle. He is wanted dead or alive by the East India Trading Company, with a bounty of 2000 guineas on his head. Recently, Villanueva has retired from piracy, leaving his dealings in the Adriatic to his nephew Sebastian, and has founded a piggery in Tortuga. He is a proud and gruff individual who is capable of commanding a large fleet. Personal Weaknesses: Villanueva is a simple duelist, often outshined by more brilliant marksmen. He has a penchant for hard liquor, which has more times than not resulted in unfavourable outcomes. Personal Skills and Training: Villanueva is a Pirate Lord, Member of the Brethren Court. He is skilled in battle, commanding large fleets, and hand to hand combat. He is fluent in both Spanish and English, and can juggle.
